The author in this book presents a story of his own life. He grows up in Dorchester and has to face real life challenges on a daily basis. Soon he takes control of his father’s repair shop which is located in South Boston. This major decision changes his life and makes the situation more intense. He starts interacting with third parties and starts making friends with people who are drug deals and other people involved in illegal activities. As the story is presented in an era full of illegal activities, he faces several bad people. He had to live on the edge and had to take every decision with care.
He lives in a place where illegal activities take place and the author notices a particular person named Bulger indulging in such activities continuously. He sees him threatening a young boy with a gun and beating up a black guy as well. Finally the author decides to confront him. Due to this he got in several troubles and had to face them bravely.
People who loved the famous book “The adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn” would love this book as well. At times this book is serious and at several points there humor as well. But in the end this book is about being a hero. This book gives a lesson of standing upright on the ground is what earns you respect. Another character from the book called Tom has a different story which is about making tough confrontations while working at his business. The author in this book has called himself the Constant Outsider. Where ever he went and whichever place he visited, he would charm everyone with his built in qualities and love for the people. His character is quite inspiring to read about and teaches a lesson to everyone about standing up to oppression and living with freedom.
About the author: Thomas Cirignano was born in Dorchester in 1952. He witnessed a lot of violence in his childhood while he took over his family’s auto repair business in South Boston. He also experienced running a gas station during oil embargo. In his later life he studied journalism and also learned scuba diving. He loves collecting motor cycles of different models and also knows how to fly a plane. He has contributed to writing and also remained an advisory member on a newspaper editorial board.
